Nintendo has officially announced that Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen are coming to the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The classic Game Boy Advance remakes will launch on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2026.
Originally released in 2004, FireRed and LeafGreen reimagined the original Pokémon Red and Green adventures with updated mechanics and visuals. Players return to the Kanto region, challenge the classic Gym Leaders, and complete the original 151 Pokédex.
These Switch versions keep the core GBA experience intact, including abilities, held items, natures, and the postgame Sevii Islands content. Local connectivity has also been modernized, meaning you won’t need a Game Link Cable to trade and battle.
Both titles will be sold individually through the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop, with support for multiple languages including English, French, and Spanish.
For longtime fans, this is a clean way to revisit one of the most iconic eras in Pokémon history. For newer players, it’s a chance to experience the foundation of the franchise on modern hardware.
